Job Title:

Assistant horse trainer

Job Responsibilities:

Halter breaking young horses, grooming, administering medication, feeding, watering, turning out, holding horses for farrier and vet, cleaning stalls, giving lessons to children, overseeing pasture horses, performing general stable cleaning duties.

Summarize Your
Experience:

My main goal this summer was to work with five young Arabians and get them to the point where they would stand for the farrier. By the end of my internship, I had accomplished this goal rather successfully. Other than working with those five, I also performed various tasks pertinent to the upkeep of an equine facility.

What I liked most about
the job:

Learning to work with young, untouched horses, beautiful facility and horses, lenient hours, weekends off, assisting in the birth of a foal, and having my own two horses on the property free of charge.

Challenges on the job:

Working alone most of the day, finding enough work to keep myself busy, handling unruly stallions, and driving in a much busier area that I am accustomed to.
