Job Title:

Grounds Maintenance Intern

Job Responsibilities:

Some of the job responsibilities I had this summer were mowing, cutting cups, irrigation system repair and maintenance, fertilizer application, weed control applications, fungicide application, getting course ready for tournament play. The mowing consisted of walk-mowing greens, tee boxes, collars, fairways and rough. Also did some work on topdressing, rolling greens, cart path extensions, addition of bridge, plugging greens, edging bunkers, hand watering, sod work, maintenance on greens mowers and supervised co-workers on jobs when needed to. Also got some experience in identifying weeds and some turfgrass diseases.

Summarize Your
Experience:

Well, overall I would say that my experience at King’s Walk Golf Course was excellent.  Working at one of the best and newest Arnold Palmer Designed Link Style Public Courses in the state helped me learn a bunch of different aspects of the golf course industry and interacting with everyone from golfers to pro shop attendants.

What I liked most about
the job:

The thing that I liked the most about working at King’s Walk Golf Course was that everyone got along and worked well with each other. Bill and Eric were great people to learn from as if I had questions, I felt comfortable to go to them and they answered my questions promptly. They were willing to teach the things I needed to know and went out of there way for me to get the experience and understanding that I would need in the future. It was a great experience for me to work along side them and the others at King’s Walk Golf Course.

Challenges on the job:

Some of the challenges I faced on the job was having partial responsibility on the weed control applications to working on slope problems in the fairways to being crew leader on certain jobs and making the jobs get done correctly.
