Job Title:

Project Assistant / GIS Specialist

Job Responsibilities:

Site Evaluations, photography, map making using GIS and GPS, web design and public communication.

Summarize Your
Experience:

My duties included documenting nature related recreation sites throughout northwest Minnesota for use in a published tourism guide book.  My site visits would typically include documenting ecological character and photographing the natural features and infrastructure each of the 500+ sites offer visitors.  I would then enter these sites into our searchable web-based database and create maps of the areas using Arcview® mapping software.

What I liked most about
the job:

My favorite part of this job was traveling to sites and searching for unique features to photograph.  I also learned a map making using GIS systems.

Challenges on the job:

The most challenging part of my job was learning to use much of the technology required by my position.  Although the technology requirements were difficult at first, I feel the experience I gained with these systems is priceless.
