Job Title:

Deck technician

Job Responsibilities:

Prep boat in morning, cut bait, bait hooks, make lunch, drop and pull anchor, process fish, sharpen knives, wash and bleach boat, and accommodate to clientele needs

Summarize Your
Experience:

Being a deck hand was a great experience and a great opportunity to see some of Alaska’s spectacular fishing firsthand. We fished almost everyday of the summer and because our money came from clientele instead of how much fish we caught, my job was to accommodate to the needs of the clientele and keep them as happy as possible, which revolved around having a good time while catching some monster fish.

What I liked most about
the job:

I was paid really well for this internship, but what was really great was that I was paid to fish and have a good time.

Challenges on the job:

The job was very long hours and you always had to be happy and if not, pretend for the clientele. As it was only another day on the water for us, we were constantly reminded that it was the clientele’s vacation so we tried to make it an unforgettable experience for them.
