Facilities
Outstanding laboratory facilities currently exist to meet the specialized needs of the program. Facilities are of sufficient size to readily adapt to a greater number of students in the program. Since the opening of the new facilities, industry has continued to support the program with appropriate donations for equipment and fixtures to keep the laboratory and on-campus restaurant current with the ever-changing technology and program needs.

Hospitality Association
The purpose of the UMC Hospitality Association (HA) is to gain additional knowledge about the Hotel/Restaurant field. The organization also helps develop organizational and leadership skills.

Industry Demand
According to the National Restaurant Association, in 2004 there were over 800,000 restaurants in the US employing 12 million people, making food service the largest private sector employer in the nation.
Over the last six years UMC Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management graduates have an industry placement rate of 98%.
The second largest growth percentage within the state of Minnesota for managerial and administrative occupations is expected to be the food service and lodging managers, with an increase of thirteen percent.
Industry Involvement
UMC's Strategic plan includes the implimentation of Program Improvement Audit Committees (PIAC) to aid in the implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of each program.
The membership of the HRI PIAC is comprised of people with diverse backgrounds and interests, including representatives from business, industrial, educational, and health organizations, as well as from the University faculty and students.

Internship
Internships are supervised on-the-job training experiences. These experiences give the students the exposure to the relevant competencies necessary in order to progress into top management positions.
A Campus-Wide Focus on Technology
The distinctive electronic learning environment at UMC complements the hotel, restaurant, and institutional management curriculum. All students are issued laptop computers and use them and related software on a daily basis. The resulting technological skill--or techno-savvy--combined with the degree program's career preparation makes UMC's graduates highly marketable and sought-after by employers.
