The UMC Advantage

UMC's Business Management program prepares, depending on the area of emphasis, future marketing, management, or aviation managers. It provides graduates with experience in marketing, management, communications, and current computer technologies. UMC graduates gain a solid foundation in business that prepares them for the many opportunities and challenges that exist in the new economy and the e-business age.

UMC's Business Management Program offers:

  • Theory balanced with applied, hands-on experience
  • An excellent placement record
  • Internship experiences in the field
  • Extensive microcomputer classroom applications
  • Professional, enthusiastic educators with industry experience
  • An interactive classroom environment
  • Individualized attention to student needs

Internships
Internship experience provides an opportunity to develop additional competencies while on the job. These experiences give students the exposure to the relevant skills necessary to progress into top management positions. Students learn how to apply for jobs, gain hands-on learning experiences under the supervision of professionals, and develop self-confidence and self-discipline.

Opportunities for Professional DevelopmentSIFE
Business Management majors gain additional experience through the Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)/Management Club. In addition to providing a venue for fun and peer socialization, this student organization strengthens the business student's entire college experience.

In Spring 2006, the UMC SIFE Team was recognized for the eight consecutive year as the SIFE Regional Champion. An email of congratulations was sent to the administration at UMC:

Dear UMC Administration,

Yesterday I acted as a judge at the regional SIFE conference at the Minneapolis Marriott. I was fortunate enough to have been a judge in the "league" that your school's SIFE team competed in. The group who presented in this year's competition was fantastic.

I was one of 18 judges in the group and without exception we were in awe. We all walked away with a very positive impression of not only this outstanding group of students but also with a new appreciation of the quality of education they must be receiving from UMC.

Congratulations to the students, Sue Brorson, Eric Burgess, and your advisory board. They are an asset to your University. Congratulations to you for your support of this outstanding group.

Regards,
