In the Fall semester of 2002 UMC completed the construction that included a large rehearsal room, practice facilities, offices, and a totally renovated auditorium that includes a new scene shop.

Students who attend UMC have a much greater opportunity to become involved in various music and theater activities on campus than at some other, larger schools.  It is not unusual for students to be involved in choir, band, class piano, and theater during any given year and still have plenty of time to excel at their other studies.  Furthermore, some students have the opportunity to take on leadership roles in the department as some theater productions and small ensembles are student directed.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston is the original computer laptop University and continues to be at the cutting edge of technology.  The music and theater departments are for students who wish to continue their music studies as well as for students who have not had the opportunity to study music and wish to learn the basics of reading music.
