More Information

It is the goal of the Service Learning Office to provide every UMC student at least one quality Service Learning experience before graduation. To that end, the Service Learning staff offers a myriad of services to students, faculty and community members.

Support
For students, we'll help you use your Service Learning experience to learn more about yourself, your community and your university. For faculty, we'll assist in the design, implementation and assessment of Service Learning courses.

Ideas
Together we explore your interests and design a Service Learning experience that best meets your needs and skills, and we provide information on community contacts and volunteer opportunities for students, faculty and staff. Students can develop service placements on campus, in Crookston, in their hometowns, or anywhere in the world. Twice during the academic year, service-learning staff host Community Dialogues for faculty, students and community partners to brainstorm on project ideas.

Resources
Click here for a list of valuable online and hard-copy Service Learning resources that our office provides. In addition, we provide training opportunities for faculty who are interested in the Service Learning concept, but aren't quite sure how to develop and implement a successful project. UMC is also a member of Campus Compact , a valuable resource for those seeking information on Service Learning and other civic engagement opportunities.

Opportunities
The Service Learning Office assists students in identifying courses containing a Service Learning component, and provides awards and scholarships to support continued student involvement in the community. Our office exposes freshman to a positive service experience in the community through Meet Crookston Through Service, held during orientation prior to the start of fall classes.
