Shake the dust out of your leisure suit; fix the fringe on your flapper dress. The theme for this year’s Homecoming Dance is "Dress Your Favorite Decade". Come dressed in attire from your favorite decade of the last century. Maybe you were born in the wrong decade and would have preferred wearing a zoot suit or wanted to be a bobby soxer from the 50’s or how about a hippie from the 60’s (Peace Man) or better yet remember the disco craze of the 70’s. Well here is your opportunity to express yourself and maybe win a prize to boot. A pizza party will be awarded to the best-dressed group and the top three best-dressed individuals will receive Hugo’s gift certificates.

WHO WILL BUILD ONE AMERICA – is the theme for this year’s campus week of diversity issues and dialogue. During the week of October 4 – 8, 1999, the offices of Multicultural/International Programs and the office of Students with Disabilities are co-sponsoring the events and activities.

REMEMBER – If you are involved in a club or a workstudy job that requires you to drive University vehicles you must be an approved driver. Approval must be obtained every year. To be an approved driver you must have a clean driving record for the last two years. You also most complete a form to have your motor vehicle record checked. Stop by the Bede Info Desk to fill out the form. To see if you are an approved driver a list is posted at http://www.umcrookston.edu/people/services/CAREER/drivers/drivers.htm

DEEP THOUGHTS FOR SHALLOW PEOPLE:

What hair color do they put on the driver’s licenses of bald men?

If a cow laughed, would milk come out her nose?

TRIVIA—WE HAVE A WINNER!!! Ryan Dougall answered the trivia questions correctly and won a free pass to the Grand Theater. He can stop by and pick up his movie pass from Pam in Bede 120. The answer to: What is the shortest complete sentence in the English Language? I am. And now you know that too. This week’s trivia question is: At what temperature do Fahrenheit and Celsius read the same degrees? If you think you know the answer, write it on a slip of paper along with your name and e-mail address and drop it off at the Bede Information Desk by 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. We will draw a winner from the correct answers. The winner will receive a Grand Theater movie pass. The winner’s name will appear in next week’s Regal’s Report.

NATIONAL DEPRESSION SCREENING DAY – People say that college is supposed to be great, but many students feel like they are just out of it, disconnected and alone. They feel sad, hopeless, and not up to the challenge of college. If you are feeling this way and can’t shake yourself out of it no matter what you do, you might be suffering from depression. Depression is more that just a bad day, it is a treatable disorder that can leave you feeling so bad that you forget how it feels to feel good. On October 7, the Counseling Center, Student Health and the Office of Students with Disabilities will be offering, free, confidential screenings for depression where you can fill out a quick self-test and talk with a counselor about your personal situation. Even if you don’t have depression and are just going through a couple of bad days, you are invited to come and learn about what services are available on and off campus. You might learn something that will help you, a friend or a roommate in the future. The screenings and information sessions are being held in Bede 111, Student Health, on October 7, from 10:00 to 2:00. Or, call Laurie Wilson at 281-8587 for more information.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

JOKE OF THE WEEK – One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex was staring up at the large plaque that hung in the foyer of the church. The plaque was covered with names, and small American flags were mounted on either side of it. The seven-year old had been staring at he plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside the boy, and said quietly "Good morning Alex." "Good morning pastor," replied the young man, still focused on the plaque. "Pastor McGhee, what is this?" Alex asked. "Well, son, it’s a memorial to all the young men and women who died in the service." Soberly, they stood together, staring at the large plaque. Little Alex’s voice was barely audible when he asked, "Which service, the 9:00 or the 11:00?"
