2000 (Snow Safari) was truly a week to remember.
RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS WEEK – will be observed February 14-18. A poster will be put up in the hallway
between Morsel’s and Bede Lounge. You
will be able to place a heart on the poster indicating either an act of
kindness you performed or an act that you were the recipient of. On Friday, February 18th the
Student Ambassadors will be providing free Pop & Popcorn in Bede from 10-12
as their Random Act of Kindness.
AUSTRALIAN INTERNATIONAL CAFÉ—will be held February 16th in Bede.
THE PLAY “BLESS ME FATHER” – A two-act comedy will be performed at 7:30 p.m. in
Kiehle Auditorium February 19th, 21st and 22nd. There will be a Sunday performance 3:00 p.m.
on February 20th also in Kiehle Auditorium. Advanced tickets maybe purchased for the
reduced priced of $3 for adults and $1
for students. Cost at the door will be
$4 adults and $2 students.

LEADERSHIP LUNCHEON—Tuesday, February 15 at noon in Dowell 205. The topic will be “Resumes”.
We will be working on computers so plan on eating prior to attending the

ATTENTION STUDENTS—IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO ATTEND SCHOOL DURING THE 2000-2001 ACADEMIC
YEAR, YOU SHOULD BE COMPLETING YOUR FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION NOW!! If you completed the FAFSA last year prior
to November, you should have received a Renewal application in early
January. If not, you can either pick up
a form in the Financial Aid office or complete the form via the WEB at: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
CHILD CARE
FUNDS—If you meet the criteria listed below and need child care assistance,
please stop in the Financial Aid Office to pick up an application to see if you
qualify for the State of Minnesota child Care Grant. You must be a Minnesota Resident. You are NOT receiving MFIP Benefits. You must be enrolled for at least 8 credits a term. You do NOT have a four-year degree. You have not exhausted your State Grant
Eligibility.
SEXUAL RESPONSIBILITY INFORMATION—Polk County Public Health will be on campus for 11:00
to 1:00 on Monday, February 14th in the SCC Entrance providing
students with information about what it means to be a sexually responsible
adult and how to maintain health relationships. Stop by for information and register for prizes.
NATIONAL EATING DISORDER SCREENING—Up to 3% of college age women are thought to develop
bulimia, while as many as 20% may have some bulimic behaviors. Thursday, February 17th, from
10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, there will be a mental health
professional conducting an Eating Disorder Screening at Student Health, 111
Bede. Stop by for a free and anonymous
screening. Open to everyone. Contact Stacey, 8512, for more information.
THE “COMBINATION”—won the IM Coed Volleyball Championship. Team members include:
Derek Anderson, Becky Seifert, Shane Osborne, Kara Clancy, Steve Brandt,
Mary Kunkel, Corey Hanson, Amber Noble, Jeff Pokorney and Pat Arnold.
Open Gym will be from 9:00 PM – 10:30 PM Tuesday and
Thursday evenings in February.
FEBRUARY IS BLACK HISTORY MONTH—Since 1978,
February has been celebrated as Black History Month in the United States. The celebration originated in 1926 at the
suggestion of Carter G. Woodson, a Black historian. This occasion has been used to draw attention to the history of
African art, music and literature, or the progress that African-Americans have
made in America. “Striving for
Freedom” by Mr. Walt McDuffy, Assistant Dean of Students at Concordia
University will be presented Tuesday, February 15th at 11:30 in
Brown Dining A & B.
African-American Cuisine will be featured for lunch. Black Excellence: The Entrepreneurs: videotape (34 minutes) followed by a guided
discussion will be held Wednesday, February 23rd at 11:30 in SCC
131. African-American Cuisine will
again be featured for lunch.

SKIING TRIP TO BUENA VISTA—The Office of Residential Life is sponsoring a
ski trip Saturday, February 26, 2000.
Cost is $15 for on campus students and $20 for students who live off
campus. This cost includes ski rental,
lift tickets and transportation to and from Bemidji. The group will leave McCall Hall at 10:30 am, ski from noon to
4:00 pm, eat at McDonalds in Bemidji and return to UMC around 6:30 pm. Please sign up with the Office of
Residential Life in McCall Hall by 4:30 pm on Wednesday, February 23rd. Money is due at time of registration and is
non-refundable.
