WORLD AIDS DAY--Tuesday, December 1 is WORLD AIDS DAY. This year's theme is "Be a Force For Change". Stop by the SC Entrance on December 1 between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. for a wide variety of information on HIV/AIDS. Register to win prizes. A film festival will also be held that day starting at 4:00 p.m. in Bede Lounge complete with popcorn and pop. Feature films will be "Philadelphia" and "Boys on the Side". Both films feature the lives of persons with HIV and AIDS and star people like Tom Hanks and Whoopi Goldberg. All events are free. Please join us and "be a force for change".

ANGEL TREE--We will be putting up the angel tree and Christmas decorations on Wednesday, December 2 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in Bede Lounge. Everyone is invited to help.

FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS--"For Whom the Bell Tolls"--No doubt you have heard those words before, but the bells that will be tolling on our campus at 12:30 will be tolling to remind us of the 18 years of the AIDS epidemic and the 30 million people around the world who are living with the disease. Join us outside of Bede on Tuesday, December 1. Be a force for change.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 3 will be a busy day on campus. Thursday is Ag Activities Day and we will have several hundred high school students on campus so welcome them to UMC. Regal pick of the week is: Tara Kude

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING--It is that time of the year again. Time to get out and do some cross-country skiing. Campus Ministry is sponsoring a night of skiing and fun. We will be going on December 2 at 7:00 p.m. from Bede Lounge, so if you are interested just meet in the lounge about 6:45 p.m. If you don't have your own equipment, don't worry, you can use the equipment from the Bede Student Center. Please join us.

HORSE SHOW--December 5^th and 6^th. Saturday, December 5 from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 6 from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

AIDS AND THE COLLEGE STUDENT--On Wednesday, December 9 Cody Rogahn and Cindy Potete of the Minnkota Health Program Grant will be on campus to share their story as it relates to the realities of HIV/AIDS among heterosexual college age students. They will be speaking in SCC A & B from Noon until 1:00 p.m. They will also be doing classroom presentations throughout the day. The speaking event is free and open to all.

SECURITY ISSUES--Please follow the posted signs at the Main entrance when entering the campus…the road to the left is ONE-WAY! Several near accidents have occurred this fall--with the Winter weather ahead, conditions will worsen. Stolen permits: lock your vehicle doors, several parking permits have been stolen from vehicles parked on the campus this past quarter. Towing and theft charges have been issued against two individuals in possession of the stolen permits. SUGGESTION BOX-- Question: "Have a powder puff game for next year at Homecoming. Have the Juniors vs the Seniors and the Freshmen vs the Sophomores." Answer: "Thanks for the great idea. This idea has been shared with the S.P.A.C.E. Committee (Students Programming and Activities for Campus Entertainment) that plans Homecoming.

SEXUAL ASSAULT FACT---Twenty-seven percent of women experienced a rape or attempted rape since the age of fourteen. This statistic came from "Sex Without Consent", Volume II, Peer Education Training for Colleges and Universities by Toby B. Simon and Cathy A. Harris.

SEVERE WEATHER--When the University is shut down in case of a severe winter storm, Dining Services will offer the following meal schedule: NO BREAKFAST, Brunch: 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in Brown Dining Hall and Supper: 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. in Brown Dining Hall. 1999-2000 CORO FELLOWS PROGRAM IN PUBLIC AFFAIRS--Coro is now looking for outstanding leaders from our campus for the 1999-2000 Coro Fellows Program in Public Affairs. They would like our assistance in identifying individuals who have distinguished themselves as leaders and are looking to take the next critical step in their career. The Coro Fellows Program is a nine-month, graduate-level, full-time, experienced-based leadership training program in public affairs. Fellows are provided with a unique opportunity to develop an understanding of public policy and decision-making by working closely with individuals and institutions that influence life in the public, private and non-profit sectors. Forty-eight fellows are chosen annually to participate in this program in St. Louis, New York, Los Angeles, or San Francisco. TOWING OF VEHICLES--Vehicles parking on the campus without a valid parking permit will be towed at the owner's expense. Permits are available at the Business Office, Selvig Hall. If you have any questions, contact Gary Willhite, McCall Hall.

COMMUTER STUDENTS--Do you bring your lunch to campus or do you want to bring your lunch to campus and don't have a place to keep it cold? LOST AND FOUND--The lost and found box is located at the Bede Information Desk. We have a purse, hats, backpacks, and several miscellaneous items.

STUDENT PAYROLL CHECKS--In order to ensure that students receive payroll checks on a timely basis, we need students and supervisors to assist in turning in time cards according to the biweekly payroll schedule. (Supervisors should have this schedule). Time cards need to be signed by the student and the supervisor and should be turned in immediately after the pay period ends in order to avoid delays. Paydays are every other Wednesday with checks available for pick up at the Business Office.

WEB EMPLOYER—Web Employer is a component that empowers employers we work with to post positions and search for candidate resumes over the web. This means less data entry for our office and staff and fewer hassles with faxing candidate resumes. Web Employer gives 1stPlace! up-to-date information on all employer activity by creating referral records so that we know which employers are contacting which applicants. Employers can only view active applicant resumes and are restricted from viewing any additional applicant information. Web components allow us to track and administer every interaction students and employers have with the system from the 1stPlace! database within our office. UMC’S E-MAIL POLICY—E-mail addresses and passwords are assigned to individuals and are not to be shared. Students are encouraged to select an obscure password and change it frequently. Access to, and use of, e-mail is a privilege and should be treated as such by all users. Computing services, including e-mail, may not be used for illegal or unauthorized purposes including: harassment, destruction of, or damage to, equipment, software, or data belonging to others; or the disruption or unauthorized monitoring of electronic communications. Using e-mail to participate in illegal acts is itself illegal and may be subject to prosecution by state and federal authorities. Use of e-mail for private business purposes unrelated to the University is not allowed. Students are responsible for using system resources wisely. Students who use the system in ways that are judged excessive or wasteful, may have their access taken away and may be subject to University disciplinary procedures.

CAMPUS AA GROUP—Students interested in starting a campus AA group may leave their names with Laurie Wilson in Bede Hall room 119. If there are enough interested students, we will identify space on campus for a regular meeting.

PARKING PERMITS—A reminder that all vehicles on campus must have a valid parking permit. Permits can be purchased from the Business Office in Selvig Hall. Vehicles without permits and/or parking in a No Parking Area will ticketed and/or towed. Thank you for your continued cooperation!
