CONGRATULATIONS--Congratulations to the winners of the Bookstore drawing for poinsettias: Yvonne Hanson, Lisa Eggert, Kathy Caughey, Patti Malme, Rana Scanlon and Marilyn LeBlane. Congratulations.

RAFFLE WINNERS--The Animal Science Association had their raffle drawing on December 11. The winners of the four half hogs were Kelly Fulton, Kristi Pederson, Peggy Anderson from Burnsville and Dennis Schentzel from Canby. Congratulations to those winners and thank you for your support. The proceeds are going towards our trip to Denver. The Animal Science Assocation.

 

 

AG-ARAMA--Theme: We're from the country and we like it that way. Dates: January 27, 29, and 30. Saturday's events will be held in UTOC. There will be a variety of games for everyone throughout the day. Dance will be Saturday at the Crookston Armory from 9:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m. DJ is Class Music and Lights Show. You will need a drivers license ID for those 21+. Please carpool and designate a sober driver. There will be a $5.00 cover charge. Look for posters around campus for more details. Everyone is welcome.

SEE A PHYSICIAN FREE--In an effort to better meet the health care needs of UMC students, starting January 6th Dr. Kanten will see students from 1:00 to 2:00 every Wednesday FREE of charge. Previously your health insurance was billed. This will no longer happen. You MUST make an appointment with Stacey, the school nurse, prior to being seen by Dr. Kanten. Any lab work and/or x-rays are the student's financial responsibility. Call Stacey at 281-8512 for more information.

LOCKERS AVAILABLE FOR RENT--There are lockers available all over campus for rent for $5.00 for the year. If you are interested please stop by the Bede Info Desk for more information.

FALL QUARTER GRADES ARE POSTED--Students can check their grades in one of two ways: (1) call the Gold Eagle Infomer Line at 281-8636 anytime from 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Saturday. If you have never used Student Access, your password will be your 6-digit birthday (MMDDYY). For example, if you were born on December 5, 1980 your initial password would be set to 120580.

This sector of this popular Web site (nearly 4 million page views per month) offers articles relevant to your job search, advice on preparing portfolios, and career search feature listing employer and job opportunities around the country.

NO CLASSES--There will no classes on Monday, January 18 and the offices will be closed due to Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.

UMC CAREER CENTER VIRTUAL JOB FAIR '99--We need the help of the total UMC community. As you may have seen the "Virtual" Job Fair posters around the campus advertising the Career Center's first "Virtual" Job Fair from February 8-19. This year we are making grand-scale recruitment more convenient for our students who will be looking for full-time, part-time, internships and seasonal jobs. We would like to have all staff and faculty encourage students to register with the Carer Center and place their resume on-line so those employers have the opportunity to review them. We will help all students interested in registering develop a quality resume to post on our web-server. Juniors and seniors should be espcially encouraged to register for the "Virtual" Job Fair. Our goal is to have between 400-500 resumes on-line for employers to eview by January 31, 1999. All resumes posted will indicate the year that the student is in college and their graduation date for employer's information. If you are a student all you ned to register is your laptop computer and an ida of how to create a resume anyplace, anytime, 24 hours a day. If you need hel0p stop by the Career Center and we will help you design a resume for the Web. Don't let the "Virtual" Job Fair 99 pass you by. Register today!!

BEDE LOUNGE WILL NOW BE OPEN TIL 9:00 P.M.--Bede Lounge will now be open until 9:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays.

EMERGENCY CLOSING POLICIES AND PROCEDURES--Informational: Radio: KROX (AM 1260), KYCK (FM 97), KQHT (FM 96), KTRF (AM 1230), KKAQ (AM 1460), KKCQ (AM 1480); Television: WDAZ (Channel 8), KVLY (Channel 11), and KXJB (Channel 4) will be notified. Voice messages will be left on campus telephones and the automated attendant at 281-6510. CHESTER FRITZ EVENTS—Students who are carrying 12 credits or more and are paying the Student fee are able to receive tickets at the Chester Fritz for 1/3 off the regular ticket price. For more information or to order tickets please see Kellee in the Counseling and Career Center, Bede Hall, room 106 or call her at 281-8586. Faculty and staff can also order tickets through Kellee but at the regular price.

SECURITY ISSUES--Please follow the posted signs at the Main entrance when entering the campus…the road to the left is ONE-WAY! Several near accidents have occurred this fall--with the Winter weather ahead, conditions will worsen. Stolen permits: lock your vehicle doors, several parking permits have been stolen from vehicles parked on the campus this past quarter. Towing and theft charges have been issued against two individuals in possession of the stolen permits. SEVERE WEATHER--When the University is shut down in case of a severe winter storm, Dining Services will offer the following meal schedule: NO BREAKFAST, Brunch: 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in Brown Dining Hall and Supper: 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. in Brown Dining Hall. WIN A FREE GIFT--REGAL’S PICK—Regal’s pick to WIN a Grand Theater movie pass. Each week a different student’s name will appear in the Regal’s Report. Spot your name to receive your free gift and bring your I.D. to the Student Activities Office, 120 Bede Hall.

TOWING OF VEHICLES--Vehicles parking on the campus without a valid parking permit will be towed at the owner's expense. Permits are available at the Business Office, Selvig Hall. If you have any questions, contact Gary Willhite, McCall Hall.

RELAX WITH A GAME OF POOL—Stop by the Bede Info Desk and check out the pool equipment. Pool tables are located on the second floor of Bede along with foosball and table tennis.

COMMUTER STUDENTS--Do you bring your lunch to campus or do you want to bring your lunch to campus and don't have a place to keep it cold? Well we have a refrigerator and a microwave oven for you to use in Bede Hall, room 116 (right across the hall from the Bede Info Desk). If you have any questions, please stop at the Bede Info Desk.

FAX MACHINE AVAILABLE FOR UMC STUDENT USE—You may send or receive a fax in the Counseling and Career Center, Bede Hall, room 106 for only $.50 per page.

PHONE MEDICAL EMERGENCIES--You must dial 9-911 when using the courtesy phone in Bede Hall or Morsel's for medical emergencies or on campus residence hall rooms.

LOST AND FOUND--The lost and found box is located at the Bede Information Desk. We have a purse, hats, backpacks, and several miscellaneous items.

HOSTELLING INTERNATIONAL--You don't have to pay resort prices for a great skiing holiday -- if you choose Hostelling International-American Youth Hostels (HI-AYH) for your overnight accommodations. Overnight fees at 43 HI-AYH hostels located in some of the USA's top ski areas range from just $7.00 to $25.00 per person, per night. STUDENT PAYROLL CHECKS--In order to ensure that students receive payroll checks on a timely basis, we need students and supervisors to assist in turning in time cards according to the biweekly payroll schedule. (Supervisors should have this schedule). Time cards need to be signed by the student and the supervisor and should be turned in immediately after the pay period ends in order to avoid delays. Paydays are every other Wednesday with checks available for pick up at the Business Office.

WEB EMPLOYER—Web Employer is a component that empowers employers we work with to post positions and search for candidate resumes over the web. This means less data entry for our office and staff and fewer hassles with faxing candidate resumes. Web Employer gives 1stPlace! up-to-date information on all employer activity by creating referral records so that we know which employers are contacting which applicants. Employers can only view active applicant resumes and are restricted from viewing any additional applicant information. Web components allow us to track and administer every interaction students and employers have with the system from the 1stPlace! database within our office. UMC’S E-MAIL POLICY—E-mail addresses and passwords are assigned to individuals and are not to be shared. Students are encouraged to select an obscure password and change it frequently. Access to, and use of, e-mail is a privilege and should be treated as such by all users. Computing services, including e-mail, may not be used for illegal or unauthorized purposes including: harassment, destruction of, or damage to, equipment, software, or data belonging to others; or the disruption or unauthorized monitoring of electronic communications. Using e-mail to participate in illegal acts is itself illegal and may be subject to prosecution by state and federal authorities. Use of e-mail for private business purposes unrelated to the University is not allowed. Students are responsible for using system resources wisely. Students who use the system in ways that are judged excessive or wasteful, may have their access taken away and may be subject to University disciplinary procedures.

CAMPUS ASSEMBLY MEETINGS—All of the meetings will be held at 4:00 p.m. in Dowell Hall 207. Following are the dates: Winter Quarter, Thursday, January 28, 1999; and Spring Quarter, Thursday, April 22, 1999.

CAMPUS AA GROUP—Students interested in starting a campus AA group may leave their names with Laurie Wilson in Bede Hall room 119. If there are enough interested students, we will identify space on campus for a regular meeting.

PARKING PERMITS—A reminder that all vehicles on campus must have a valid parking permit. Permits can be purchased from the Business Office in Selvig Hall. Vehicles without permits and/or parking in a No Parking Area will ticketed and/or towed. Thank you for your continued cooperation!

STUDENT CONDUCT CODE—Students are reminded that they are responsible for the information contained in the Student Conduct Code.
