PIG ROAST AND DANCE--FFA Pig Roast from 6:30 - 8:30 P.M. and a street dance from 8:30 - Midnight on Wednesday, May 13 at UTOC featuring the "Undertakers". Free admission to all UMC students with I.D. Come and dance the night away under the stars.

 

SPRING RODEO--Spring Rodeo season is here for the Rodeo Club at UMC and their barrel racers are off and running. A jackpot Barrel Race was held in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin in March with three UMC students competing: Nikki Fiorini, Debbie Rutten, and Elissa Vredenburg. Fiorini placed first in Novice Horse Barrels with Rutten placing a close 3rd. Barrel racers also attended Valley City Jackpot Races in April where Rutten took home the money for 1st and 3rd in the Open Barrels and Fiorini placed 4th. The main focus for the Rodeo team is competition in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. This spring UMC Rodeo Team will be competing at college rodeos in Nebraska, North and South Dakota. Good Luck Team!

BEDDING PLANTS FOR SALE--The UMC Horticulture Department and club will have their

annual bedding plant sale Wednesday, May 13 from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Bring your University

I.D. for admittance. Thursday, May 14 the sale will run from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The

sale will be at the Horticulture Production Greenhouses (across from Parking Lot A). There

will be a good selection of geraniums, annuals, hanging baskets and vegetable plants to

"LURKING ON THE RAILROAD OR WILL SHE GIVE HIM A WIDE BERTH"--The Music-Theater Department is presenting the two-act musical melo-drama "Lurking On the Railroad or Will She Give Him a Wide Berth" May 9-12 at 7:30 p.m. in Kiehle Auditorium. The cast of 18 students includes Eric Perkins, Darci Delage, Bridget Stortroen, Rebekah Strotroen, Kiowa Ackley, Shane Naslund, Keturah Kelley, Matt Smith, Eric Klindt, Rachel Sunbom, plus chorus. Admission is $3.00 for adults and $1.00 for students and children. The show, which features a lot of slapstick and comedy, is suitable for everyone.

 

SUMMER EMPLOYMENT IN RESIDENTIAL LIFE--Painting, cleaning, and various other maintenance duties. Preference to UMC students. For more information or to apply stop by the Office of Residential Life in McCall Hall.

 

THE RODEO TEAM would like to invite all area youth 4-H members to ride with them on campus at UTOC on Thursday, May 14 at 5:00 p.m. Riders will get a chance to brush up their gaming techniques before summer begins with their own horse or a horse can be provided for them. This event is one of the Rodeo Teams' Community Service Projects and is free to 4-H club members and students of the University. For more information please contact Sharon Escue at 281-8127.

FACT--One out of six female college students reported having been a victim of rape or attempted rape during the preceding year.

 

ATTEND GRAD FEST 98--The Counseling and Career Center, Registrar's Office, Financial Aid Office, Bookstore and Alumni Office invites you to attend the UMC "Grad Fest 98" in Sahlstrom Conference Center 131 on May 12 from 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Stop by and congratulate the graduating UMC students. This is to honor our graduates, give them an opportunity to register for graduation, pick up their cap and gown, check their financial aid standing with financial aid, register with the Career Center, sign up with the UMC Alumni organization and much more. Look for more information about this event in the future and plan to stop by.

FUNDING FACULTY INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES--The directors of Faculty Service Grants and Global Campus from the Institute of International Studies and Programs (ISP) in the Twin Cities Campus will be conducting a workshop on "Funding Faculty International Activities" on Wednesday, May 13 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon in Dowell Hall, room 102. The agenda follows: 10:00 - 10:30, Faculty Grant Program, ISP databases and establishing faculty exchanges; 10:30 - 11:00, Faculty involvement and faculty promoting student involvement in international programs; 11:00 - 11:45, Finding funding for study and research abroad--accessing available resources--a hands on computer experience; 11:45 - Noon, Questions and discussions. UMC AMBASSADOR--Apply now to be considered for the 1998-1999 UMC Student Ambassador group. Students must be in good academic standing, be reliable, energetic and willing workers. These are volunteer positions dedicated to a variety of campus service efforts such as serving as host and hostess students at campus functions, supporting new student orientation efforts and ongoing outreach to students through educational and service activities, and working to make the campus a

friendlier and more caring environment. Most training and organizational meetings are held in the late afternoon or evening,

SUMMER HOURS FOR THE BOOKSTORE--The Bookstore hours this summer will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 26 through August 28, 1998. If you have any questions contact Leela in the Bookstore.

 

SEVERE PENALITIES/LATE FEES will apply if you return your computer late. We are under a very tight time constraint for the return of these machines and would appreciate it if you would clean your computer before it's returned. Wipe the outside of your computer with a slightly damp towel. Screens should be cleaned with the same, but remove streaks with glass cleaner. Paper towels work great, but don't use tissue--it's too linty. Ensure you have all of your parts when you come to return: Notebook, floppy drive, AC adapter, multiport and lan cable. We will not accept your notebook until you have everything. We will issue a receipt upon successful completion of the above. Please keep the receipt to prove you have returned your notebook. If you have any questions, please stop by the Help Desk or call 281-8000.

UMC CHOIR IS PLANNING AN INTERNATIONAL TOUR--The UMC Choir is planning their upcoming 1999 Tour to London, England, Paris and France. If you are interested in going to these places with the choir please contact Shon Naslund (USAN005), Rebecca Preisler (URAP001), or George French (Gfrench).

 

"A DANGEROUS CROSSING"--The French Cultural Organization in this area (AFRAN) is producing a play, "A Dangerous Crossing," on August 22 and 23 at their Chautauqua near Red Lake Falls. The drama is based on true life adventures which occurred at the Red River from the 1820's to the 1840's. Persons who are going to be in this area over the summer are welcome to audition for a part. Contact George French at 281-8266 or Gfrench for more information about audition times. There is a copy of this play on reserve in the Library under his name.

Thirty-five scholarships of up to $1,000.00 will be awarded annually. TRANSCRIPT UPDATE—In compliance with new national transcript guidelines, your University transcript no longer lists courses (and grades for those courses) taken at other institutions. Your University transcript will continue to list the name of the previous institution and the number of credits transferred. A new report, the Student Course Report, will list all transferred courses (including the title and grade for each) as well as all your University coursework. Reports are available at the Office of the Registrar, 109 Selvig Hall.
