PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE WORKSHOP--The SIFE-Management Club will be hosting a parliamentary procedure workshop on Tuesday, April 21 in Kiehle 133. This workshop will be exported to East Grand Forks so the student senate and organizations from that campus can partake of this information as well. All students are welcome to attend.

STUDENT SATISFACTION SURVEY COMING--If you enjoyed the opportunity to share your views when you completed the Student Service Fee Survey winter quarter you're going to love the chance to indicate your satisfaction (or lack of it) with a variety of UMC services and programs when completing the Student Satisfaction Survey. The survey will be available to complete on the web and will ask your opinion on things such as: academic advising, dining services, financial aid, parking, personal security/safety, bookstore, concern for you as an individual, residence hall rules and regulations and many more topics. Look for an e-mail announcing the survey's availability the last week in April.

FALL QUARTER 1998 REGISTRATION BEGINS--Registration for fall quarter 1998 and summer sessions begins on April 20. Fall and summer class schedules and 1999 winter/spring planning guides are available at the Office of the Registrar. Registration status notice (RSN) forms are no longer printed and distributed to students. Instead, students can find their scheduled registration time by calling the Golden Eagle Informer Line (281-8636) or by logging on to the web based Student Access System (http:r2.micro.umn.edu/sai.run) . A printed registration queue is also included on page 11 of the class schedule. Detailed instructions on how to self-register via the web are included on page 7.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR TAKE BACK THE NIGHT rally and march on Thursday, April 30 at 7:00 p.m.. In recognition of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month, the University of Minnesota, Crookston and the Violence Intervention Project are sponsoring the first "Take Back the Night" program in the Crookston Community. "Take Back the Night" events have long symbolized the need for all members of the community to join together to stop sexual violence, domestic abuse and child abuse in our communities. Additionally, "Take Back the Night" events provide opportunities for educational forums and community activism of a positive nature. We are hoping that this event will bring together concerned citizens from a variety of backgrounds, ages, occupations and life experiences to focus on making our community a safer place for all of its citizens. The march and rally will begin in the Crookston High School Commons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30. Participants from UMC may board a bus at the football field at 6:45 p.m. and catch a ride to the High School. Sign up at the Bede Info Desk. Free t-shirts to the first 160 student participants. SUMMER HOURS FOR THE BOOKSTORE--The Bookstore hours this summer will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 26 through August 28, 1998. If you have any questions contact Leela in the Bookstore.

CROOKSTON DAY OF SERVICE--Saturday, May 2 from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Clubs (Regal pick of the week is: Eric Whitehill) looking for community service projects can sign up to help at the Bede Info Desk. We will meet at the Crookston Arena for work assignments. Free food will be served all day.

CROOKSTON ARTIST SERIES--Bending the Bows--Monday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. Performance will take place in the Crookston High School Auditorium. An uproariously funny show that could make Charlie Chaplin laugh and give Victor Borge the giggles! Violinist Eduard Minevich and fiddler Frank Leahy battle it out in a side-splitting comical performance which sweeps the spectrum of musical styles--country, folk, gypsy, traditional, jazz, swing, and classical. A delightful and at times whimsical blending of seemingly incompatible worlds--from Grand Ol' Opry to Carnegie Hall, from Paris, France to Paris, Texas, from Moscow, Russia to Moscow, Idaho. There's musical entertainment aplenty in this whirlwind program of dueling fiddles. An ever-surprising mingling of Country and Classical--truly gopher baroque. Bending the Bows is comic musical theater at its tickle-the-funnybone best, with a rich diet of humor, drama, story, banter, and musical virtuosity. 7 FREE tickets are still available at the Bede Info Desk. 'LURKING ON THE RAILROAD OR WILL SHE GIVE HIM A WIDE BERTH"--The Music-Theater Department is presenting the two-act musical melo-drama "Lurking On the Railroad or Will She Give Him a Wide Berth" May 9-12 at 7:30 p.m. in Kiehle Auditorium. The cast of 18 students includes Eric Perkins, Darci Delage, Bridget Stortroen, Rebekah Strotroen, Kiowa Ackley, Shane Naslund, Keturah Kelley, Matt Smith, Eric Klindt, Rachel Sunbom, plus chorus. Admission is $3.00 for adults and $1.00 for students and children. The show, which features a lot of slapstick and comedy, is suitable for everyone.

REGISTRATION--ALL students, whether using web registration or registering in person for a closed class, must have a magic number. Otherwise, instructors will not be able to keep track of how many overrides have been given out.

NOTEBOOK COMPUTERS--Reminder that ALL student notebooks are due back to the Help Desk, Dowell Hall 104, by FRIDAY, May 22. This is commencement and the last day of finals.

SEVERE PENALITIES/LATE FEES will apply if you return your computer late. We are under a very tight time constraint for the return of these machines and would appreciate it if you would clean your computer before it's returned. Wipe the outside of your computer with a slightly damp towel. Screens should be cleaned with the same, but remove streaks with glass cleaner. Paper towels work great, but don't use tissue--it's too linty. Ensure you have all of your parts when you come to return: Notebook, floppy drive, AC adapter, multiport and lan cable. We will not accept your notebook until you have everything. We will issue a receipt upon successful completion of the above. Please keep the receipt to prove you have returned your notebook. If you have any questions, please stop by the Help Desk or call 281-8000.

RESIDENT ADVISOR POSITIONS AVAILABLE--Applications are now being taken for the position of Resident Advisor. This position will be for the 1998-1999 academic year. Applications will be taken through 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22. Applications can be picked up at the Office of Residential Life in McCall Hall or at the Skyberg Desk. The Resident Advisor position offers several opportunities for obtaining and improving life skills that will help you be successful in the future. The Resident Advisor position offers room, 80 meals and $139.00 in Morsel money and a $200.00 stipend per quarter. UMC CHOIR IS PLANNING AN INTERNATIONAL TOUR--The UMC Choir is planning their upcoming 1999 Tour to London, England, Paris and France. If you are interested in going to these places with the choir please contact Shon Naslund (USAN005), Rebecca Preisler (URAP001), or George French (Gfrench).

"A DANGEROUS CROSSING"--The French Cultural Organization in this area (AFRAN) is producing a play, "A Dangerous Crossing," on August 22 and 23 at their Chautauqua near Red Lake Falls. The drama is based on true life adventures which occurred at the Red River from the 1820's to the 1840's. Persons who are going to be in this area over the summer are welcome to audition for a part. Contact George French at 281-8266 or Gfrench for more information about audition times. There is a copy of this play on reserve in the Library under his name.

UMC FITNESS CENTER is open Monday through Saturday from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m.

The center is open weekdays from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. as well.

Saturday the Center is open from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Please renew your

spring quarter membership. Cost is $15.00 per quarter for UMC employees, $40.00

for a family membership per quarter. To purchase a membership or if you have

FINANCIAL AID REMINDER--Just a quick reminder to students that in order to renew your financial aid for next year, you should be completing the 1998-1999 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at this time. If you did not receive a renewal application in the mail, you may pick up a FAFSA packet outside of the Financial Aid Office, 4 Hill Hall.

DROPPING AND ADDING CLASSES--Students eligible to use web self-registration may drop classes through April 20^th. See page 25 of the Spring 1998 Class Schedule for more specific information. Students must meet two conditions to be eligible to use web self-registration: 1) Must have a UMC cumulative GPA of at least a 2.00, and 2) Be officially admitted as a UMC degree-seeking students (PSEOA, NWTC-EGF, Adult Special, and College in the High School students are not eligible). All other students must process changes in registration in-person at the Office of the Registrar and must have adviser and all other required approvals.

COMMUTER STUDENTS--Do you bring your lunch to campus or do you want to bring your lunch to campus and don't have a place to keep it cold? Well we have a refrigerator and a microwave oven for you to use in Bede Hall, room 116 (right across the hall from the Bede Info Desk. If you have any questions, please stop at the Bede Info Desk.

RELAX IN THE LOUNGE ON WEEKENDS--BEDE STUDENT CENTER WILL BE OPEN ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAYS—We have just received great news that we will be able to have Bede Student Center open on Saturdays and Sundays for the remainder of the year. This will allow students easy access to the game room, outdoor recreation equipment, a place to study and be. The hours will be Noon to 5:00 p.m..

TRANSCRIPT UPDATE—In compliance with new national transcript guidelines, your University transcript no longer lists courses (and grades for those courses) taken at other institutions. Your University transcript will continue to list the name of the previous institution and the number of credits transferred. A new report, the Student Course Report, will list all transferred courses (including the title and grade for each) as well as all your University coursework. Reports are available at the Office of the Registrar, 109 Selvig Hall.

FAX MACHINE AVAILABLE FOR UMC STUDENT USE—You may send or receive a fax in the Counseling and Career Center, Bede Hall, room 106 for only $.50 per page.

STUDENT/STAFF TELEPHONE DIRECTORIES—Students living off campus can pick up their copy of the Student/Staff Directory at the Registrar’s Office in Selvig Hall. On-campus students should have received their copy of the directory from their RA.

NEED MONEY—If you are a student who would like to earn $6.18 per hour without leaving campus to do it, consider signing up to read textbooks for students with reading disabilities. You do not have to be workstudy eligible for this job, but you must possess strong reading abilities and be able to complete work in a timely way. See Linda Rains in the Academic Assistance Center, Owen 217 for more information.
