KATIE KOESTNER WILL BE ON CAMPUS--Katie Koestner will be on campus all-day doing a series of presentations on sexual assault and harassment. Katie was raped while on a date back in 1991 and has been working hard since then to get her message out and to do as much as possible to make sure that it does not happen to anyone else. A very motivating speaker, we hope that you take the opportunity to hear her during the day. 10:00 a.m. Kiehle Auditorium, Convocation guest speaker. 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Dowell 114--"What to do when someone is raped?" An open session for faculty and staff to come and find out how to assist a rape victim. 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.--Teasers in the classroom. 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., Conference Center A & B--"What to do if someone is raped?" An open session for students, faculty, staff and people from the community to come and find out how to assist a rape victim. 7:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m., Bede Ballroom--"No-Yes" keynote presentation. A 1-2 hour presentation on sexual assault and harassment with question and answer period. (9:30 p.m., Brink Hall--"No Visible Bruises: The Katie Koestner Story"--The HBO documentation based on Katie's story.
SOLUTIONS FOR REDUCING HIGH-RISK ALCOHOL USE IN THE COLLEGE COMMUNITY--1:00 - 3:00 p.m., Monday, March 30, Conference Center A&B. A satellite conference. All faculty, staff, and students are invited to sit in and listen to several experts as they explore the characteristics and implications of high-risk drinking, examine with types of practices and policies help reduce or change high-risk drinking behaviors and relate what steps are required to develop an effective program at our institution. RUSSEL SIMON--"DRUGS, PRISON, GANGS AND RECOVERY"--Thursday, April 2, 7:00 p.m.,
Bede Ballroom. Russel Simon will be presenting "Drugs, Prison, Gangs and Recovery" a tale
of his life experiences. Russel speaks to the problems he has faced and is facing because of
personal choices he has made. It is an open discussion about his past and what it is really like
in prison. Russel is bringing a slide presentation of prison life and samples of some weapons
that were taken in a prisoner shake-down. This is a very moving presentation, guaranteed to
make you think!!
TUESDAY NIGHT FEVER--March 24, 8:00 p.m., Bede Ballroom. Tuesday Night Fever will be A Touch of R.E.A.L.L.I.T.Y. Be challenged, be entertained. A TOUCH OF REALLITY is dedicated to the upliftment of humanity. Their clear way of displaying the emotions felt by some of the most complicated subjects is both entertaining as it is educational. They are able to touch on subjects like AIDS, the use of the "N" word, television's effect on American children and the day-to-day experiences of a young black male.

CROOKSTON ARTIST SERIES--Bending the Bows--Monday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. Performance will take place in the Crookston High School Auditorium. An uproariously funny show that could make Charlie Chaplin laugh and give Victor Borge the giggles! Violinist Eduard Minevich and fiddler Frank Leahy battle it out in a side-splitting comical performance which sweeps the spectrum of musical styles--country, folk, gypsy, traditional, jazz, swing, and classical. A delightful and at times whimsical blending of seemingly incompatible worlds--from Grand Ol' Opry to Carnegie Hall, from Paris, France to Paris, Texas, from Moscow, Russia to Moscow, Idaho. DROPPING AND ADDING CLASSES--Students eligible to use web self-registration may drop classes through April 20th. See page 25 of the Spring 1998 Class Schedule for more specific information. Students must meet two conditions to be eligible to use web self-registration: 1) Must have a UMC cumulative GPA of at least a 2.00, and 2) Be officially admitted as a UMC degree-seeking students (PSEOA, NWTC-EGF, Adult Special, and College in the High School students are not eligible). All other students must process changes in registration in-person at the Office of the Registrar and must have adviser and all other required approvals.

UROP--Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program--UROP offers financial awards to undergraduate students for research, scholarly, or creative projects undertaken in partnership with a faculty member. UROP affords undergraduates the unique educational experience of collaborating with a faculty member on the design and implementation of a project. It encourages students to conduct research and pursue academic interests outside of their regular courses by employing them to work on special projects. UROP applications are judged on the quality of the proposed project and the educational benefit to the student. Students may receive both a stipend (up to $1,000.00) and expense allowance (up to $300.00) for a single project. The maximum award is $1,300.00. All full-time undergraduates are eligible to apply provided they are in good academic standing. Students on academic probation and adult special students are not eligible. Application deadline is 4:30 p.m. on April 6, 1998 (for projects from July 1, 1998 to June 15, 1999); completed applications should be returned to the Academic Affairs Office, 302 Selvig Hall. Late applications will not be accepted. Copies of projects funded in the past are on reserve in the library. We have just received great news that we will be able to have Bede Student Center open on Saturdays and Sundays for the remainder of the year. This will allow students easy access to the game room, outdoor recreation equipment, a place to study and be. The hours will be Noon to 5:00 p.m..
TRANSCRIPT UPDATE—In compliance with new national transcript guidelines, your University transcript no longer lists courses (and grades for those courses) taken at other institutions. Your University transcript will continue to list the name of the previous institution and the number of credits transferred. A new report, the Student Course Report, will list all transferred courses (including the title and grade for each) as well as all your University coursework. Reports are available at the Office of the Registrar, 109 Selvig Hall.
STUDENT CONDUCT CODE—Students are reminded that they are responsible for the information contained in the Student Conduct Code. Copies are available at various locations around campus including the Bede Info Desk, the Library, and the Office of the Registrar. UMC FITNESS CENTER is now open Monday through Saturday from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. Soon the center will
be open weekdays from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. as well. Saturday the Center is open from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Please renew your fall quarter membership.
