Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)
SIFE is a global non-profit organization active in more than 40 countries. SIFE students work in partnership with business and higher education where they are challenged to develop community out reach projects that reach SIFE’s five educations topics:
- Market Economics
- Success Skills
- Entrepreneurship
- Financial Literacy
- Business Ethics
Club's principle activities, events and programs:
The Mission of UMC SIFE is to educate, inspire, and reinvest in our community while expanding our minds in the ever changing global business world.
Club's community service:
The projects that we do with in the community are:
- Golden Eagle Grind- This is our Coffee shop located in the Student center of UMC
- Craft Show- A show supporting vendors across Minnesota & North Dakota
- Blood Drive- working with student health service organizing a major blood drive
- Parliamentary Workshop- UMC SIFE identified a need within our University’s clubs for conducting business meetings more effectively
- Job and Internship Fair- each hear UMC SIFE student coordinate the Job and Internship Fair held on the UMC campus
- Marketplace foe Entrepreneurs- UMC SIFE hosted a booth at Marketplace and spread the word about SIFE and free enterprise
- Coloring Book- Our coloring book about Polly the potato chip teaching kids about important free market economic concepts including the 4 P’s of marketing Product, Price, Place and Promotion
- Speakers Series- These events are open to all UMC students and faculty. Speakers discussed a variety of free enterprise topics
- Golden Eagle Mix- UMC SIFE students has put together a radio station that can be heard at www.goldeneaglemix.com
- State Fair- UMC SIFE students go down to the Minnesota State fair every year promoting the both UMC and the UMC SIFE team while teaching the audience about the SIFE criteria’s.
- Books for Africa- UMC SIFE partnered with Books For Africa, a non-profit organization and each semester we collect and send text books to Africa.
- Business Activity Days- Every year over 300 students from 13 northwest Minnesota school in business programs come to competed in 10 different business competitions.
- Diversity Workshop- UMC SIFE students have been asked for 3 years by the Crookston high school to go in and talk about diversity.
- Cook Book with Red Lake Reservation- Partnering with General Mills, UMC SIFE and the Red Lake High School is developing a cookbook of Native American recipes provided by students and tribal members which will be sold worldwide
